Paula Cronan

“Dream Machine” 2003 (installation)

Mixed media

I dreamt I was running on a beach, though the running felt more like gliding, due to my great strength and fluctuating gender. Naturally, I hit a patch of broken glass, fast, and a shard stabbed itself into my foot. I tried to keep running anyway, but the pain was sharp enough to bring me to a stop within a few steps. I needed to remove the obstacle, so I pinched at the edges of the glass and pulled out what had turned into a small key.
